Dr. PATRICK ESSIEN HONOURED BY NUGS AT THE 58TH HANDING-OVER AND EDUCATION AWARD CEREMONY

Dr. Patrick Essien, Founder and President of Molex Foundation Africa, has been highly honoured by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in recognition of his exceptional commitment to youth development, leadership mentorship, and national progress.

The prestigious recognition was conferred during the 58th NUGS Handing-Over, Swearing-In, and Education Award Ceremony, a landmark event that celebrates excellence, service, and visionary leadership within Ghana’s student movement. The award underscores Dr. Essien’s enduring contribution to shaping responsible, ethical, and purpose-driven young leaders across the country.

Dr. Essien is widely acknowledged as one of Ghana’s most passionate champions of youth empowerment, gender inclusion, and STEM advancement. As a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) expert, environmental scientist, and public servant, his influence extends beyond advocacy into practical, life-changing action.

Through Molex Foundation Africa, Dr. Essien has consistently demonstrated uncommon dedication to bridging the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) often in the face of significant challenges. His flagship initiative, *SHEROES in STEM*, has become a national symbol of hope and transformation for young girls who aspire to careers in science and technology.

Through this initiative, hundreds of young women have gained:

* renewed confidence and self-belief,
* access to STEM education and hands-on skills,
* mentorship from industry and academic leaders, and
* the courage to innovate, lead, and compete in a rapidly evolving global economy.

These interventions have not only empowered individuals but have also contributed meaningfully to Ghana’s broader human capital development and sustainable growth agenda.

At the ceremony, Dr. Essien received a Youth Leadership Recognition (Citation) in acknowledgment of his sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering mentorship of young people in leadership and governance. The citation read in part;

“We are honoured to recognize you, Dr. Patrick Essien, Deputy Director for Mining, Environmental Protection Authority, for your outstanding support and commitment to youth leadership development and national progress. Dr. Essien currently serves as Deputy Director for Mining at the Environmental Protection Authority, where he continues to blend technical expertise, ethical leadership, and youth-centred advocacy in national development.
