Tension at Bekwai -Senfi ;Agona Royal Family Runs To Otumfuo for Cover
The Agona royal family of Senfi in the Asante Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region is pleading with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene to help solve land litigation issues in the area.
Nana Kwasi Bonsu, spokesperson for the Agona Family at Senfi, in a press conference stated that, the Senfi Community belongs to the Agona royal family but for some reasons beyond their control Adumasahene has taken advantage of their stool lands which has brought tension between the two parties.
According to him, currently the old palace that was built by their ancestors has collapsed and for that matter, their lands has been taken over by Adumasahene whom they described as someone who has no control whatsoever over their land.
Nana Bonsu affirmed that , Adumasahene is selling their farmlands and is destroying their foodstuffs because he(Adumasahene) thinks he has all the powers to do so.
He said,the forgoing character has led to the dismiss of several family members, leaving some on their sick beds and has subsequently rendered the family into abject poverty.
Nana Bonsu revealed that,” you dire not say anything against the act and you will be arrested by the Bekwai police and be detained.
Says the is currently a growing tension in the community, because most of the members of the Agona Family especially men , fear for their lives and cannot go to their farms or either sleep in their own houses in the Senfi Community.
Nana Bonsu on behalf of the Agora family took the opportunity and made a passionate appeal to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene,the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene immediately in order not to escalate a bloodshed, because when it comes to Chieftaincy issues, Nananom are responsible to settle, and argued why someone would hide behind the police who knows nothing about the issue to be harassing and arresting royal family members for visiting their own lands.
