Kumawu MP Eases Parents’ Burden with Major Donation to 500 BECE Graduates

The Member of Parliament for Sekyere Kumawu, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has supported 500 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the district with essential items to assist their transition to senior high school.

The items included trunks, mattresses, chop boxes, cutlasses, rubber buckets, school bags, bowls and cutlery sets.

The initiative, now in its fourth year, forms part of the MP’s efforts to ease the financial burden on parents and promote education in the constituency.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Anim said this year’s support was particularly significant as it covers most basic needs for SHS entrants. He disclosed that GH¢500 has also been set aside for the best-performing candidates to encourage academic excellence.

He pledged to visit the beneficiaries in their respective schools to monitor their progress and encourage them to stay focused.

Hon. Anim also appealed to parents and guardians to take greater interest in their wards’ education beyond financial support. He expressed concern that some parents rarely visit their children in SHS or attend PTA meetings, stressing that emotional support and encouragement are crucial for academic success.

He said his priority is investing in the human capital of Sekyere Kumawu, expressing hope that beneficiaries would become doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers, teachers and other professionals serving the district and the nation.

The MP urged the students to make good use of the items, study hard, maintain discipline and avoid negative peer influence.

Some parents and beneficiaries expressed gratitude, describing the gesture as timely relief that will enable students to begin SHS with confidence. The students pledged to use the items judiciously and work hard to justify the investment in their education.
