Local Health Outreach Intensifies in Offinso South Communities

Health education activities have been intensified in parts of the Offinso South Municipality following concerns over rising cases of typhoid fever in some communities.

The Assembly Member for the Bonsua Electoral Area, Hon. Zakaria Shaibu, has been engaging residents in communities such as Mansra, Achiase and Asaasua on the need to observe proper hygiene and sanitation practices to help prevent the spread of the disease.

The exercise focused largely on educating residents about basic preventive measures, including regular handwashing, drinking safe water and maintaining clean surroundings.

During interactions with residents, emphasis was placed on the importance of boiling or treating drinking water, eating properly cooked food and avoiding unhygienic environments that could expose people to infections.

Typhoid fever remains one of the common public health concerns in several communities, particularly in areas where sanitation and access to clean water continue to be challenges.

Some residents who participated in the engagement said the education was necessary, noting that many people often overlook basic hygiene practices that contribute to the spread of diseases.

The community visits form part of ongoing efforts to increase public awareness on preventive healthcare and encourage residents to take personal and environmental sanitation seriously.
