Ghana coalition of NGOs in health celebrate AIW.
The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health and Ejisu Health Directorate have celebrated 2024 Africa Immunisation Week at Ejisu Kwaso in Ejisu Municipal of the Ashanti region.
The African Vaccination Week is an annual event celebrated during the last week of April in synch with the other World Health Organization aiming at creating awareness of killer diseases that can kill babies whose parents refuse them immunization.
This year’s theme for Africa Immunization Week is Healthy Childhood: Invest in your Child for a Better Future.

Ashanti Regional Deputy Director for Public Health speaking to the media said the theme was appropriate judging from the fact that, there was an urgent need for everyone to ensure that all eligible children received their vaccines at the appropriate time.
The Ashanti regional Deputy Director for Public Health said the country had achieved great successes over the years in child health through sustained immunization, citing the elimination of neonatal tetanus since 2011, mainly through awareness, advocacy, as well as improved routine and surveillance activities.
He said six childhood killer diseases such as measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, yellow fever, and polio used to kill or permanently maim hundreds of children annually in Ghana had also reduced tremendously.
Dr. Emmanuel, however, warned that these diseases had not vanished, and may reoccur hence, he encouraged all parents to avail their before by immunizing eligible children at the right time.
National Vice Chairman Ghana Coalition and NGO in Health Ninsau K Darku-Akizan for his side stressed the importance of child immunization and pledged the association’s commitment to creating awareness and educating parents about the benefits of childhood vaccination.
He further remarked that, during the celebration they support some health directorates with requisite materials to make the program successful.
