Tatale-Sanguli DCE’s Awards Bring Pride to Northern Ghana, Says Yaa-Naa

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tatale-Sanguli, Hon. Mary Tagba, has paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa, following her recent recognition by the World Diplomatic Federation for outstanding leadership and advocacy.

The visit, which took place at the Yaa-Naa’s palace in Yendi on Monday, May 4, 2026, was to formally present the awards to the revered traditional ruler and seek his blessings, while also briefing him on plans to launch a foundation aimed at empowering women and promoting girl-child education in the Northern Region.

Hon. Mary Tagba, who was accompanied by a delegation from the Tatale-Sanguli District, described the recognition as a collective achievement for the people of the region, particularly traditional authorities whose guidance, she noted, has shaped her leadership journey since her confirmation as DCE.

“This honour is not mine alone. It belongs to the entire Northern Region and to my father, the Yaa-Naa, whose counsel and support have been instrumental in my work,” she stated.

Double Honours for Leadership and Advocacy.

The DCE received two prestigious awards from the World Diplomatic Federation — Best DCE in the Northern Region and Adaptability & Social Infrastructure Advocate Honors, recognising her commitment to governance excellence and her advocacy for the girl-child.

She attributed the achievement to her dedication to service, both to God and country, as well as the consistent guidance she has received from chiefs and elders across the region.

Hon. Mary Tagba used the occasion to encourage women, particularly those in leadership or aspiring to public office, to seize opportunities to serve diligently when given the chance.

“When women are given the opportunity to lead, we must prove our worth. We must demonstrate to our fathers, chiefs, and elders that we are capable of delivering results,” she emphasised.

She further highlighted the untapped potential of women in the Northern Region, noting that many remain underrepresented not due to lack of ability, but limited opportunities.

“There are many capable women in this region whose talents and skills remain hidden simply because they have not been given the platform to serve. When given the chance, they will contribute meaningfully to the development of our region and the country as a whole,” she added.

Foundation to Champion Women and Girl-Child Development.

As part of her vision to expand her impact, Hon. Tagba announced plans to establish a foundation that will focus on providing scholarships for girls and promoting women’s economic empowerment.

According to her, the initiative will also support and train young women interested in entering politics, equipping them with the necessary skills and confidence to lead.

She expressed optimism that such interventions would significantly improve the future of women in the region and inspire greater participation in governance and development.

“If we invest in the girl-child and empower women economically and politically, we will build a stronger and more inclusive society,” she noted.

Traditional Endorsement and Call to Action
In his response, the Yaa-Naa commended Hon. Tagba for her dedication and achievements, describing her as a shining example for women across the district and beyond.

He urged other women to emulate her commitment to service and excellence, stressing that recognition comes through hard work and dedication.

The Overlord further encouraged the DCE to remain focused and continue striving for greater accomplishments, noting that her achievements within just one year in office signal a promising future.

“With two major awards within a year of assuming office, it is clear that you have a bright future ahead. Do not relent in your efforts; continue to work hard for the development of your district,” he advised.

The Yaa-Naa also observed that Hon. Mary Tagba’s performance has brought national attention to the Tatale-Sanguli District, which only had its first DCE appointed in May 2025.

“Because of your hard work, the entire country is now hearing about Tatale-Sanguli. This is a proud moment for Dagbon and the Northern Region,” he remarked.

He added that the recognition should serve as motivation for other women to serve with diligence when given leadership opportunities.

Following her engagement at the Yaa-Naa’s palace, Hon. Tagba proceeded to the palace of the Paramount Chief of the Tatale Traditional Area, where she presented the awards to the chiefs, sub-chiefs, and queen mothers.
She used the occasion to express gratitude for their unwavering support and to seek their continued guidance and blessings as she steers the affairs of the district.
