Heart to Heart International, Millennium Promise Alliance Transform Rural Healthcare with Modern Lab for Dunkura

A major boost has been delivered to healthcare services in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region following the commissioning of a fully equipped Tropical Laboratory Facility at the Dunkura Health Center by Millennium Promise Alliance in collaboration with Heart to Heart International.

The intervention, led with support from Tena Tiraneh, Senior Vice President of Heart to Heart International, underscores a strong commitment by the two organizations to strengthening healthcare delivery systems in underserved communities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Millennium Promise Alliance, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Boahen, reiterated the organization’s dedication to improving health outcomes in rural areas. He explained that the establishment of the laboratory forms part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing diagnostic services, reducing delays in treatment, and ultimately improving patient care.

According to him, access to timely and accurate diagnosis remains a critical component in the fight against disease, particularly in remote communities where health infrastructure is often limited.

The Bosome Freho District Director of Health, Mrs. Francisca Essinam Ahiavi, expressed profound gratitude to Millennium Promise Alliance and Heart to Heart International for what she described as a transformative intervention. She noted that the new facility would significantly strengthen the district’s diagnostic capacity and reduce referrals to distant health centers.

However, she appealed for further government support to upgrade the Dunkura Health Center to a polyclinic. She also highlighted the urgent need for a mini theatre, staff accommodation, and additional health personnel to meet the growing healthcare demands of the area.

Adding his voice, the Chief of Boagyaa, Nana Appiagyei Danka, who also serves as Otumfuo Dabehene, commended the organizations for their timely intervention and encouraged residents to make good use of the facility.

He further used the platform to urge political leaders to prioritize the continuity of development projects, stressing that abandoning ongoing initiatives slows down national progress. He specifically called for the timely completion of key interventions such as the Agenda 111 hospital projects, noting that sustained commitment to such programmes would significantly improve access to quality healthcare and promote socio-economic development.

The newly commissioned laboratory the first of its kind in Dunkura is expected to greatly improve access to healthcare services for residents and surrounding communities, marking a new chapter in rural healthcare delivery in the district.
