“No Place to Call Home: Kumasi’s ‘Scatters’ Plead for Understanding Amidst Relocation Plans”

A group of individuals known as the “scatters” in Kumasi’s Manhyia area are facing an uncertain future as the Minister of Interior, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka, has directed the police and security agencies to relocate them from their current location, Thinker Island. The scatters, who have built a community and established their way of life, are worried about their safety and well-being.
some of the scatters expressed their concerns and fears about being forced to leave their homes. One of them, who moved to Thinker from Asafo almost two years ago, said, “I’ve built a life here, and I’m not sure what will happen to me if I have to leave.” They emphasized that they are not just stereotypes, but people with stories, hopes, and dreams.
The scatters are known to dress up and go to work every day, and they have built a community in Thinker Island. However, the Minister’s directive has raised concerns about their future and the potential impact on their lives.
Apostle Dr. Samuel Amagashie of Amagashi Herbal Clinic weighed in on the issue, highlighting the risks of substance abuse among Ghana’s youth. He noted that harmful drugs, such as those causing kidney disease, are a major concern and that urgent action is needed to regulate the sale of such substances and dismantle illegal supply chains. He also emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate at-risk communities about the dangers of substance abuse.
