VAG Appeals to Government to Enroll Their Wards into Military

The veterans said they are being overlooked during enlistment and recruitment into the military, which they described as “worrying,” and urged the government to address this.

Ex-WO1 George Appiah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association, told the media that, recruiting their children would better serve them and make them feel fulfilled.

On the sidelines of the 80th Remembrance Day Service held at the Cenotaph in Kumasi today, he listed several challenges they face, including issues concerning their welfare.

While urging the government to increase its pension payments to enable them to care for their families, he also appealed for better accommodation and improved healthcare provision.

Gracing the solemn ceremony where wreaths were laid in remembrance of the fallen heroes and heroines was Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti regional minister.

He commended the veterans for their dedication and service to Ghana and the world at large.

For his part, Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, urged the preservation, maintenance, and sustainability of the nation’s peaceful environment.
