MDF’s Big Move To Boost Security In Manso Nkwanta
The Minerals Development Fund (MDF) has officially commissioned a new divisional police quarters in Manso Nkwanta, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to enhance security in the mining communities of Amansie West and South districts.
The facility, handed over to the Ghana Police Service, is part of MDF’s commitment to supporting responsible mining practices and promoting community safety. Dr. Hannah Louisa Besiw, Minerals Development Fund Administrator, emphasized the organization’s dedication to extending its support to communities, ensuring responsible mining without destroying the environment.
The Minerals Development Fund was established in 2016 to channel a portion of mineral royalties into projects that improve living standards in mining communities. The Manso Nkwanta police quarters project reflects the Fund’s resolve to use mining proceeds for tangible and lasting development outcomes that promote peace and safety.
According to Dr. Besiw, mining districts often face heightened security concerns, and the MDF has therefore prioritized support for the Ghana Police Service to ensure a stable environment that encourages lawful mining practices and community harmony.
“The Minerals Development Fund is deeply committed to supporting communities affected by mining. We believe that sustainable development and responsible mining must be anchored on strong security structures that protect people, property, and the environment,” Dr. Besiw said.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, noted that the regional security council has made significant strides in curbing attacks on mobile money vendors, leading to improved security in the region. “The MDF’s efforts are a welcome addition to our ongoing initiatives to ensure the safety and security of our communities,” he said.
Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II, Paramount Chief of Manso Nkwanta, expressed gratitude to the government and appealed for continued support to address developmental challenges in the area. “This facility is a much-needed boost to our community, and we are thankful for the MDF’s commitment to our development,” he lamented.
The commissioning of the police quarters is expected to enhance the capacity of the Ghana Police Service to provide security in the mining communities, promoting a safe and stable environment for residents and investors alike.
