Media Access Restricted: GJA Protests EC’s Collation Centre Decision

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed strong opposition to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to restrict media access to collation centers during the upcoming elections.

According to the EC, only accredited journalists will be allowed to cover the collation process, sparking concerns among media practitioners about the potential limitation on their ability to report accurately and comprehensively.

The GJA argues that this restriction undermines the principles of transparency and accountability, which are essential for credible and fair elections. The association emphasizes that unrestricted media access to collation centers is crucial for ensuring that the electoral process is open to public scrutiny.

The GJA has urged the EC to reconsider its decision, citing the importance of media freedom and the need for transparency in the electoral process. The association has also called on journalists to remain vigilant and committed to reporting accurately and comprehensively on the elections, despite the challenges posed by the EC’s decision.
