Trust Broken: Mampong NPP Calls for Action After Polling Station Violence

The Mampong New Patriotic Party Polling Station Election Committee has today, appealed to their party’s Ashanti Regional executives and the Ghana Police Service to restore confidence in the party’s internal electoral process after violent disruptions prevented some polling stations from electing their executives on Thursday.

At a press conference held in Asante Mampong , constituency election officials led by Alhaji Malik, who doubles as the NPP Constituency Secretary for Mampong, accused Mampong parliamentary hopeful Richard Asare, popularly known as _”APICOM”_ and regional organiser hopeful Dennis Kwakwa of obstructing the elections.

Officials alleged that supporters linked to APICOM seized electoral materials, attacked election officers disrupted voting at centres such as T.I. Ahmadiyya JHS and other centers.

They also claimed Dennis Kwakwa allegedly took a megaphone from election officials at Daaho and announced that voting should only continue if every person present was allowed to vote, a move they said triggered chaos and halted the process.

In their press statement read to the media, only 75 out of 145 polling station elections were successfully conducted, leaving 70 polling stations without voting after disturbances erupted at some centres.

The officials however, maintained that the elections were conducted in line with party rules and guidelines governing registration, vetting and voting procedures.

Alhaji Malik said the committee is appealing to the party’s regional executives for guidance and also, to take a decisive action on the next steps in the electoral process.
