Stanbic Hands 50 Laptops to KNUST, 40 for Female STEM Students

Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated 50 brand-new laptops to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to advance digital equity under the university’s SONSOL initiative.

Forty of the laptops are earmarked for brilliant but needy female students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programmes, as part of efforts to close the gender gap in STEM.

The donation supports KNUST’s _“Support One Needy Student with One Laptop” (SONSOL)_ initiative, introduced by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson.

A delegation led by Stanbic Bank CEO Mr. Kwamena Asomaning presented the devices to KNUST management on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

“As the digital economy continues to expand, equitable access to technology enables individuals to pursue education and skills development, secure employment, and engage meaningfully in civic life,” Mr. Asomaning said.

He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting women in STEM with technical and material resources to boost their confidence.

Stanbic Bank has donated 400 high-end laptops since the SONSOL project began, directly impacting hundreds of students.

Receiving the laptops, Prof. Dickson lauded Stanbic Bank’s consistent support. “Their timely interventions have shaped the lives of hundreds of students who would have been worse off without the support,” she said.

She added that the laptops will be handed over to beneficiaries at a mini durbar on campus to ensure transparency. KNUST assured Stanbic Bank of a mutually beneficial partnerships
