ATWIMA MPONUA MP DONATES 3,100 MATHS SETS, PLEDGES SHS SPONSORSHIP FOR TOP BECE CANDIDATES
Days before the start of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, has moved to eliminate a key barrier for candidates in his constituency by distributing 3,100 mathematical sets.
The donation exercise, held across selected schools in the district, targets every registered BECE candidate ahead of the exams scheduled to begin May 4. The mathematical sets — containing compasses, protractors, rulers, and pencils — are required tools for Mathematics and Integrated Science, two core subjects in the BECE.
Addressing students and teachers during the distribution at Mponua D/A JHS, Hon. Osei Akoto said the intervention was driven by firsthand accounts of students sharing or borrowing tools during mock exams.
“Education remains the cornerstone of the constituency’s future. We cannot allow a child to fail simply because they could not afford a GH₵15 mathematical set,” the MP stated. “This gesture is part of my continuous effort to promote education and ensure that no student is left behind due to lack of basic learning tools.”
Raising the stakes, the MP unveiled a new scholarship scheme to reward academic excellence. He pledged to fully sponsor the Senior High School education of any candidate from the constituency who scores an aggregate between 6 and 15 in the 2026 BECE.
“This is not just about passing. It’s about excelling. We want to invest in our brightest to become the doctors, engineers, and leaders Atwima Mponua needs tomorrow,” he added.
The District Director of Education, Ms. Ama Adwubi Asafu-Adjaye, who received the items on behalf of the schools, described the MP’s support as timely and consistent.
“Hon. Osei Akoto has been a dependable partner. From furniture to teaching materials, his interventions directly impact classroom delivery. When students are equipped, teacher morale goes up and learning outcomes improve,” Ms. Asafu-Adjaye noted. She urged candidates to justify the investment with strong performance.
The donation drew emotional responses from beneficiaries. A final-year student at Nyinahin Catholic JHS, 15-year-old Kofi Mensah, said he had been anxious about the exams because his old mathematical set was broken. “Now I can go and write with confidence. God bless the MP,” he said.
Headteacher of Apenimadi D/A JHS, Mr. Kwabena Owusu, said the MP’s track record on education is unmatched in the district. “Last year he donated exercise books. This year it’s maths sets and scholarships. He’s walking the talk.”
The MP’s office confirmed that distribution will be completed across all 47 public and private JHSs in the constituency by May 2.
