Kumawu MP Sounds Alarm on Human Trafficking
Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, has emphasized the need to tackle human trafficking and child labor, stating they’re significant threats to citizens’ dignity, safety, and future, particularly women and children.
As Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Hon. Anim made the call at a capacity-building workshop organized by The International Justice Mission in partnership with the committee. The workshop aimed to enhance stakeholders’ knowledge, skills, and coordination in addressing human trafficking.
Hon. Anim reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to strengthening legislative and oversight responsibilities to protect vulnerable individuals and combat human trafficking. He stressed that the workshop was a timely initiative, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences and best practices.
The MP has also urged Parliament to address worsening living conditions in Ghana’s prisons, describing the conditions as “inhumane” and contravening national values and international human rights obligations.
