“NDC’s Challenge to NPP’s Parliament Seats Fails, Court Orders MP’s to Remain in Parliament”

A Kumasi High Court has dismissed a petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) challenging the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections in three constituencies in the Ashanti Region. The NDC had contested the outcomes in the Ahafo Ano South-West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North constituencies, alleging that their candidates had rightfully won the seats.

However, the court ruled in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), upholding the election of the NPP Members of Parliament. Counsel for the NPP MPs, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, argued that the NDC failed to comply with procedural requirements, specifically not applying for the determination of security for costs within 21 days after the election results were gazetted.

The court, comprising two judges from High Court 2 and High Court 6, unanimously ruled that the NDC’s petition was invalid and dismissed it. The judges ordered the three NPP MPs to remain in Parliament to represent their constituencies, effectively affirming their electoral victories.
