NDC Demands Compensation for Victims Affected by Demolition of Abinkyi Market

The Opposition National Democratic Congress in the Subin Constituency has criticised the sudden demolition of some parts of Abinkyi Market.

The party is also calling for the payment of compensation to traders affected by the demolition.

The demolition of shops, the NDC noted, has left hundreds of traders without a livelihood.

Addressing the press in Kumasi, Mr. Collins Boakye, the Deputy Communication Officer of the NDC, expressed concerns over the limited timeline that were given to traders to relocate, which prevented them from evacuating all their goods, resulting in significant losses.

“The country is afflicted with so many economic challenges – high indebtedness, high interest rate, high cost of food, depreciation of the cedi, unemployment, unprecedented corruption just to mention a few. Why should the KMA sit on the fence while people lose their means of ‘livelihood through such barbaric, disdain, inconsiderate and atrocious act meted out to innocent people who do everything possible to put body and soul together?” Mr. Collins Boakye quizzed.

Some of the affected traders also shared their grievances to the newsmen, asking for government support.

According to them, traders of Abinkyi market have been abandoned by the share of the national cake to Ghanaians, particularly traders.
