Sekyere Afram Plains : Parents urged to invest in girl-child education

Coordinator of Vision For Action foundation has urged the public to invest in girls through education for a brighter future.

He said investing in girl-child education would help to reshape them to be better future leaders.

Justice Owuraku Boafo made this appeal during girl child education awareness workshop held at Drobonso in Sekyere Aflam Plains district of the Ashanti region.

Sekyere Aflam Plains is the leading district in Ashanti region with teenage pregnancy, hence, the workshop funded by CDD Ghana from the  Hewlett foundation focused on addressing the challenges girls faced as well as promoting girls’ empowerment, and fulfilling their human rights.

Justice Owuraku Boafo speaking to newspointgh.com implored parents to provide the requisite learning materials to the girl child to avoid relying on ‘boyfriends’ for survival.

The workshop also amongst others was to sensitized the students on the courses and schools they have to consider after Junior high schools so far as school placement is concern.

The coordinator remarked that Night studies by ‘I’m aware group’ will be intensified to confine the students to stick to their books.

Added that all relevant stakeholders particularly the traditional authorities should visit the schools to ascertain their challenges and offer immediate solutions to it to make studies and learning be attractive to the girl child.

During the workshop at Sekyere Afram Plains, participants invited for were all organized groups, identifiable groups such as market women, seamstress, traders, fishmonger, charcoal burners, drivers union, teachers union, the clergy and traditional leaders to grace the occasion.

Coordinator for free Senior High school Owusu Brobbey for his part taking the students through the school placement as part of the workshop highlighted significance of education in this contemporary life.

Mr Owusu Brobbey entreated the students to select nearby schools for their own well being.

He advised the students to take advantage of the free SHS and study hard to benefit from the programme.

The coordinator explained that, free Senior High school will be operational this September and the students are entitled to free meals, school uniforms, books and amongst others, hence, the students in Sekyere Afram Plains should strive hard in their studies to be a partaker.
