SSNIT making strides in informal sector as 57,000 self-employed enrolled on SEED initiative
The Director General of Social Security And National Insurance Dr John Ofori Tenkorang has remarked that approximately 57,000 self-employed individuals have registered with SSNIT.
He indicated that before the initiation of the self-employed Enrollment drive (SEED) and the subsequent public awareness campaign, a mere 14,000 self-employed individuals had enrolled with SSNIT .
Dr John Ofori Tenkorang said the significant growth was achieved within a year of launching the SEED programme and conducting extensive public education efforts.
He made this known during a stakeholders meeting organized by SSNIT in collaboration with the Trade Union Congress (TUC). The focus of the meeting aimed at raising awareness among informal sector workers about SEED and emphasize the importance of their enrollment in the programme.
The director general of SSNIT expressed his satisfaction with the remarkable growth rate of SEED, especially in light of the participation of various informal sector workers, including driver’s Union and traders.
He encouraged workers in the Informal sector to sign up for SSNIT, stressing in the advantages they would enjoy while highlighting the importance of securing their financial future.
