SATURDAY VOTING NOT IN FAVOUR OF SDA MEMBERS- SENIOR CHURCH MEMBER
The Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), Ashanti South Ghana Conference, in the Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region has constructed an ultra-modern office complex at Adankranya.
The facility is equipped with special offices for settling disputes
Speaking at the inauguration a senior member of the church Pastor, Prof. Robert Osei Bonsu who was the guest speaker lamented that the practice of holding general elections on Saturdays is an indirect way of excluding members of the church from participating in the process of electing national leaders
He said the practice which has become a permanent feature of electing the president and parliamentarians amounts to disenfranchising SDA members in the discharge of their civic responsibility.
He called on the authorities to take a second look at this arrangement so members of his church who qualify to exercise their right to vote can participate actively in general elections.
On the issue of the recent changing of governments through coup d’etat which seems to be gaining grounds across the West African sub-region the SDA church senior member said the church, as a body, does not support any such unconstitutional means of changing governments.
He said the church rather believes that any government which is not able to perform its task by way of fulfilling the wishes of the people must be voted out as the law of Ghana requires.
The President of Ashanti South Conference Pastor Steven Kofi Anokye in an interview acknowledged the efforts of the Adankranya congregation in putting up the ultra-modern office complex which according to him will serve a very useful purpose.
He was very hopeful that the culture of maintenance will not be compromised to safeguard the facility.
