A/R: Yaa Asantewaa SHS emerged winners of Energy commission SHS Renewable energy challenge
Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School has emerged as winners of Energy Commission 4th edition of Ashanti regional senior high schools renewable energy challenge.
Ten senior high schools participated in this edition on the theme mechanised small scale agriculture using renewable energy technologies.
The participated schools were St loius SHS, Opoku Ware, Yaa Asantewaa, KNUST SHS, St Jerome SHS.
The rest are Essase Bontefufuo, TI Alhamadiyya Girls Asokore, Akrofoum SHTS, Sekyeredumase SHTS and Obuasi SHTS
At the end of the contests Yaa Asantewaa SHS won with 90.33 percent, followed by Obuasi SHTS on 2nd position with 81 percent and Opoku Ware SHS had the 3rd position with 80.33 percent whilst St Louis SHS had the 10th position.
Mr Frederick Ken Appiah, Deputy Director of Renewable Energy at the Energy commission said the challenge aimed at developing the research skills of senior high school students and promote technological innovations in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Also, to instill in students the passion of solving problems using renewable energy, clean energy, energy efficiency and climate change initiative through innovative research.
The Ashanti Regional Education Director Dr William Kwame Amankra encourage the students avoid chew and pour studies and use the ability of their hands and mind to expose the creativity in them to solve daily problems in our communities.
He underscored that the chew-and-pour method of learning has hidden a lot of the students potentials and ability, hence, he encouraged Ghanain students to practicalised what the have been taught in school.
