Wassa Amenfi East MCE engages traders on proposed 24-hour economy market project

Traders and stakeholders in Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region have been briefed by the Municipal Assembly, led by the MCE, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, on the proposed 24-hour economy market project.
The briefing and sensitization form a significant step towards the commencement of the befitting, modernized market in Wassa Akropong.
The purpose of the meeting on Wednesday, August 5 was to inform, educate, and engage traders on the scope of the project, the implementation process, and the expected impact on their livelihoods.
It also served as a platform for dialogue between the Assembly and the trading community to ensure transparency and cooperation throughout the project cycle.
An open forum was provided for questions, answers, and suggestions towards the success of the proposed market.
H.A. One Day Construction Company Limited is the contractor awarded for the market construction, with Devepro 360 Engineering Consult as the consultant.
The construction duration is 36 months.
Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah and the contractor for the project addressed a range of stakeholders, including the Market Queen, market women, Assembly Members, traditional rulers, staff of the Assembly, as well as representatives from various trader associations and market leadership structures.
In his address, Nana Ebbah explained that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader agenda to modernize market infrastructure and promote a vibrant 24-hour economy that will enhance productivity and commercial growth.
Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah disclosed that due to space constraints, the existing Wassa Akropong old market land is inadequate.
As a result, the proposed 24-hour economy market will be sited at the spacious Wassa Akropong “B” School Park in the municipal capital to accommodate its large-scale design.
Nana Ebbah attributed the short delay in the market project to extensive consultations with the Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi over land for the project. He said construction should have started a month ago.
The Western Regional MMDCEs Dean, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, praised President Mahama for the 24-Hour Economy vision, calling him a visionary leader focused on empowering youth and traders.
He also thanked the President for the swift release of the District Assembly Common Fund, with 25% earmarked for the new market project.
The Wassa Amenfi East MCE commended the Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, for his unwavering commitment to ensuring that the market project is duly executed.
Hon. Ebbah tasked the contractor to ensure quality delivery and complete the project on time.
He assured the traders that the redevelopment project is not only aimed at improving infrastructure but also at creating a safer, more organized, and more efficient trading environment.
Again, the MCE noted that the project is expected to spearhead economic expansion by attracting more buyers and investors from surrounding communities and beyond.
Some traders thanked the government for the proposed new market, adding that the 24-hour market will boost traders’ incomes through increased customer access and extended trading hours.
The contractor for the project told the gathering that the new market will be equipped with modern facilities, including police and fire stations, a school to accommodate traders’ children, car park, bank and clearly demarcated trading zones to reduce congestion and improve movement within the market.
