PRESS RELEASE BY THE CONCERNED YOUTH OF AHAFO ANO SOUTH-WEST ON NUMEROUS INSECURITIES IN THE DISTRICT
We, the Concerned Youth of Mpasaaso No.1, Mpasaaso No.2, Achiase, Manhyia, Adiembra, and Asuokoo, all located within the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region—have come together in unity and with heavy hearts to bring to the attention of the Ghanaian public the unbearable security crisis facing our communities.
This moment is not about personal attacks or political propaganda. We are not here to soil anyone’s reputation.
We are simply desperate young people, crying out for help. Our families can no longer go to their farms safely. Our traders, miners, and even students are living in fear. We are living under siege by a group of armed thugs who have turned our peaceful communities into a zone of terror.
These notorious individuals, carrying deadly weapons such as guns and machetes, continue to terrorise innocent residents, especially our hardworking farmers and miners.
They forcibly seize logs and timber from our people without any legal authority. And when anyone dares to question or resist, they are subjected to brutal beatings.
Our pain runs deeper. These same criminals are attacking residents on the roads, especially those riding motorcycles. They place guns and machetes to the heads of their victims and, in some cases, go as far as butchering them. These are not isolated incidents. This has been going on for months.
What is even more alarming is that these criminals operate with impunity and boldly claim to be acting under the authority of the District Chief Executive, Hon. Abubakar Saddick.
This cannot be taken lightly. If such dangerous activities are ongoing and the name of the DCE continues to be mentioned without any public denial or action, then it raises serious questions about his role in these atrocities.
We have made several reports to the Mankranso District Police Command under ASP Richard Boahen, but nothing has been done. Instead of protecting us, we are told to go and arrest these criminals ourselves. How can unarmed civilians confront armed thugs? It is completely unacceptable.
Therefore, we are officially calling on the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to take immediate action by removing Hon. Abubakar Saddick from his position as DCE. He has failed to protect the very people he was appointed to serve.
We are also demanding the immediate removal of ASP Richard Boahen, the Mankranso District Police Commander. He has not only ignored our numerous reports but has also demonstrated gross incompetence and disregard for our safety. We no longer have trust in his leadership.
We further appeal to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene; the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno; the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mubarak Muntaka; and all relevant stakeholders to intervene swiftly and restore peace and justice in our communities.
We are giving the authorities a few weeks to address these concerns. If nothing is done within this time frame, we, the youth, will be left with no option but to defend ourselves against these criminals. This is not a threat; it is a plea for survival.
Ladies and gentlemen of the media, we thank you once again for standing with us. We are counting on your support to amplify our voices and help restore peace in our communities. If any new development arises, we shall not hesitate to call on you again.
