Ghana Boosts Energy Sector with 161kv Transmission Line Project
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially launched the 161kV Anwomaso-Kumasi Transmission Line Project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing Ghana’s energy infrastructure.
The project, a collaborative effort between the Ghanaian government and international partners, including the European Union and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), is expected to improve power transmission in the Ashanti Region, reduce system losses, and enhance voltage stability.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister Jinapor emphasized that the project represents a bold shift toward self-reliance, regional competitiveness, and sustainable economic development. “This project is not merely about connecting substations; it symbolizes our commitment to transforming Ghana’s energy landscape,” he stated.
The project aligns with the government’s strategic priorities, including modernizing the national grid, diversifying the energy mix, and expanding access and energy equity. The government has expressed gratitude to the European Union and AFD for their continued partnership in supporting Ghana’s energy sector development.
With this project, Ghana takes a significant step towards achieving a strong, resilient, and future-ready power grid, ultimately contributing to the country’s energy security and inclusive prosperity.
