Energy Minister Unveils Plans to Transform Ashanti Region into Power Generation Hub
He made this revelation after requesting a power supply plan from the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO) for the year 2024.
Jinapor shared this information during a welcome meeting with the Ashanti Regional Minister, which was part of his inspection of ongoing projects aimed at addressing power challenges in the region.
The Minister acknowledged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government inherited a weakened power system but expressed the government’s commitment to stabilizing power supply, particularly in Kumasi and the Ashanti region as a whole.
He mentioned that the government is making significant investments in power generation in Kumasi.
Specifically, he noted that the AMERI power plant has been relocated to Kumasi to enhance the resilience of the power supply.
Additionally, AKSA Energy Ghana and CENIT Energy Limited are expected to install power plants in Kumasi to further stabilize the situation.
Jinapor also stated that GRIDCO is incorporating major transformers to ensure a stable power supply, while the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is undertaking important improvements.
He assured the public that the Ashanti region will become a key hub for power supply.
Dr Frank Amoakohene, Regional Minister, expressed power supply challenges in the region, indicating calls he has received concerning the erratic power supply.
He also bemoaned the lack of effective communication on the power challenges from the mandated institutions.
