Jubilation at Manhyia as New Asantehemaa is Named

Manhyia Palace was filled with joy on Monday as history was made in Kumasi. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, officially enstooled Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa, drawing crowds of residents, chiefs, and well-wishers to witness the ceremony.
The event was marked by pomp, traditional music, and cultural displays. Members of the royal family, traditional leaders, and citizens gathered in their finest kente to celebrate the selection of a new Queen Mother for Asanteman.
Nana Ama Bonsu takes over from the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III. Her enstoolment places her at the heart of Asante tradition, where she will serve as a mother figure to the kingdom and a key advisor to the Asantehene.
In her new role, the Asantehemaa is expected to focus on the advancement of women and children, the protection of Asante customs, and the promotion of peace within the kingdom. Traditional leaders have expressed optimism that she will lead with wisdom and uphold the legacy of her predecessors.
The naming of Nana Ama Bonsu signals a new era for Asanteman. It also highlights the continued relevance of chieftaincy in modern Ghana, as the institution remains central to culture, unity, and community development.
