Kumasi MCE Outlines Vision for City’s Economic Revitalization
In a bid to reposition Kumasi for economic vitality, Metropolitan Chief Executive Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi aka King Zuba has outlined key initiatives to enhance the city’s development. Speaking at the Assembly Meeting, Mr. Boadi emphasized his commitment to making Kumasi a beacon of cultural pride, urban discipline, and economic vitality.
To achieve this vision, the MCE has proposed the enactment of a bye-law requiring shop owners in the Central Business District (CBD) to install smoke detectors to enhance fire safety. Additionally, efforts are being made to address the persistent disregard for traffic rules and regulations in the CBD, with a focus on easing congestion and ensuring the smooth flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
A comprehensive strategy has also been implemented to engage traders operating in unauthorized areas, with obstructions such as metal structures and tables removed following a public notice. The MCE commended the efforts of security personnel for maintaining peace and stability in the metropolis.
In a significant move, a joint task force was formed to enforce the recently approved 15% reduction in transport fares. As a result, 114 ‘trotros’ have been impounded and fined for non-compliance.
Mr. Boadi expressed his gratitude to stakeholders, including the Asantehene, Ashanti Regional Minister, and NDC executives, for their support. He pledged to lead in a collaborative, consultative, and accountable manner, recognizing the contributions of his predecessors and committing to build on their legacy with renewed energy and vision.
