Juaben Municipal : MCE leads raid on galamsey site to combat illegal mining

Hon.Eunice Ohenewaa Ansu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Juaben has led an operation to raid an illegal mining (galamsey) site as part of intensified efforts to combat environmental degradation in the municipality.
The operation, was conducted in collaboration with the Municipal Security council (MUSEC)and security forces.
It was recalled TV3 reported that, one candidate writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the Duapompo M/A junior high school in the Juaben municipality of the Ashanti Region has allegedly abandoned the exams to engage in illegal mining activities.
Report indicated that, the male student abandoned the exams to galamsey site with a reason of financial constraints.
With this, the Juaben municipality Assembly has officially banned all mining activities in the area .
Speaking to Tv3 news after the operation at Akyease, the MCE Eunice Ohenewaa Ansu reiterated the Assembly’s zero – tolerance stance on illegal mining.
She emphasized that the uncontrolled activities of galamsey operations pose a significant risk to the health,safety and economic well-being of residents.
She said she was determined to rid the municipality of illegal mining operations, saying that those activities not only destroy the environment but also endanger the future of the youth and the sustainability of natural resources.
The operation led to the arrest of Cecilia owusuaa, a pregnant woman and a galamseyer.
She was later released due to her condition.
Cecilia told the news team that, she has been doing the illegal mining to cater for herself and her children at home.
Meanwhile some assembly members in the area has pleased with government to help the assembly to combat the illegal mining activities in their communities.
