WORLD FOOD DAY: ” CONFERENCE OF NUTRITION AND DIETETICS ORGANIZES SYMPOSIUM AHEAD OF WORLD FOOD DAY CELEBRATION*

A symposium has been organized ahead of the celebration of the World Food day 2023 at the Kumasi Cultural Centre. The commemoration of the event is scheduled for next Friday.
World Food Day is observed to highlight the need for all people to have access to proper food and nutrition which is a basic human right.
However, millions of people especially, in the developing world do not have access to healthy food and water.
The Conference of Nutrition and Dietetics which organized the Public Symposium on Ghana Food-Based Dietary Guidelines used the occasion to focus on creating awareness on the importance of proper nutrition and initiatives adopted to ensure that every person on this planet is given access to proper food.
A Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana who doubles as a dietician, Dr E. A Hayford in an interview said that, ensuring food safety and security and combating hunger are the essential themes of celebrating World Food Day.
Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntramah who is the Asanteman Benkumhene, called for the regular consumption of local and traditional foods because of their rich and healthy nutritional content.
According to him, there is no need to go in for fast foods which though are easier to prepare and has become very popular especially among the youth pose a major health risk for consumers.
Nana Kusi Ntramah used the occasion to condemn Galamsey because of its destructive impact on lands suitable for farming.
