120 tertiary students benefited from MTN Bright Scholarships
MTN Ghana Foundation has presented Scholarships to the first batch of 2023 MTN Bright Scholarship beneficiaries.
This year a total of 120 Students from public tertiary institutions are being awarded by the MTN Bright Scholarships for the year 2023/2024 Academic year.
The objective of the scholarships seeks to ease the financial burden on students and their parents.
Speaking at the presentation of the scholarship, board Member for MTN foundation,
Mr.Samuel Koranteng indicated that they have a collective goal as a private sector company in Ghana and they are willing to support the youth in their education.
MTN Foundation Board Member, Samuel Koranteng said in all, they received about 1,900 applications from 17 Public Institutions.
He added that 200 applicants were shortlisted for the scholarship interview saying out of 200 shortlisted, they finally settled on 120 students for the 2023 Bright Scholarship Awards.
Mr Koranteng noted that this year’s award focused more on STEM, Computer Science, Vocational students, Persons with Disability and students in the Six (6) newly created regions among other factors.
He stressed that MTN is committed to providing opportunities for brilliant and needy students to receive an education that will enhance their livelihoods.
Mr Koranteng encouraged beneficiaries to take their studies seriously to make themselves, parents, MTN and the nation proud.
The MTN Foundation Board Member gave assurance that they would continue to invest in education, health, economic empowerment among others.
Some of the beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude, Tibe Emmanuel Nouta, who is studying Doctor of Pharmacy programme at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said things hasn’t been easy for him since he entered the University.
According to him, he developed an interest to apply for the scholarship after he sighted the link being posted on a students’ platform by a past beneficiary of the scheme who is his friend. “And looking at how easy the life of my friend was last academic year, I gave it a try and here I am”.
Tibe Emmanuel underlined that, had he not been put unto the scholarship scheme, he had no plan that was going to be successful. I think most of the burden on me has been reduced. As I am here, I can feel that I am already eased for the next academic year and I think it is going to be the best for me. I will urge every student to give it a try.
