Entrepreneurs Empower NBU-YEC Trainees In Kumasi

Some accomplished entrepreneurs in Ashanti region on Friday 17th March 2023 engaged beneficiaries of the No Business as Usual-Youth Empowerment Center (NBU-YEC) project.

They were called by implementors of the SOS Netherlands funded project (NBU-YEC) to empower trainees by sharing with them traits they (trainees) need to possess to be successful in their chosen careers.

Audience at the training were youth within the Greater Kumasi who are currently done with their Core Life Skills training under the project with most of them having fair idea of the kinds of businesses they want to do.

Entrepreneurs who turned up at the event as facilitators were those in business fields including fashion and design, make-up artistry, hairdressing and pastry making.

They were; Madam Hawah Braimah, CEO Akaal Skills Development Academy,
Miss Doreen Afriyie, CEO, Verdee Clothing,
Madam Jane Boakye Mensah CEO, Jacavi School of Beauty and
Mrs. Gitta Sheila Amoako, CEO, FG Cakes and Chops Training School.

Among the expected outcomes were; participants having a deeper understanding of the careers they choose, getting first-hand experience from mentors in their fields of work, becoming sure of their career path and preparing mentally for it.

Coordinator, NBU-YEC Project told the press at the event that the engagement sought to avoid situation where resources put into them (trainees) for the acquistion of skills will end up getting wasted.

She underlined the foregoing as key factors contributing to the collapse of several businesses, explaining that most entrepreneurs are not successful because “they want to do what everyone is doing.

So they start and after some time when they realize the business is not turning out fruitful, they leave all the efforts and resources and start something else”.

Facilitator doubling as the CEO Akaal Skills Development Academy Madam Hawah Braimah encouraged the trainees to love their chosen carrier, develop a heart for it and invest in themselves as well.

ABOUT PROJECT

The No Business as Usual-Youth Empowerment Center (NBU- YEC) project aims to train, coach, and mentor 400 youth within the Greater Kumasi area to make positive life choices and have improved income through the acquisition of employable and entrepreneurial skills.

The project targets vulnerable youth who need extra support in order to become productive in their families and societies as a whole.
