KUMAWU MP IN OTTAWA FOR HIGH-LEVEL PARLIAMENTARY CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAMME

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency is currently in Ottawa, Canada, participating in a high-level parliamentary capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening democratic governance and legislative effectiveness.

The intensive programme is designed to equip legislators with practical knowledge, strategic insights, and analytical tools to enhance parliamentary oversight, public policy engagement, and constituency representation.

Organized in partnership with leading governance and legislative institutions in Canada, the training brings together parliamentarians from across the globe to exchange best practices in lawmaking, committee work, budget scrutiny, and service delivery.

Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, the Kumawu MP noted that the sessions are providing deeper understanding of how parliaments can hold the executive accountable while remaining responsive to citizens’ needs.

“This programme is equipping us with practical tools to strengthen oversight, interrogate public policy more effectively, and improve how we represent our constituents,” the MP stated.

Key modules include legislative drafting, evidence-based policy analysis, constituency engagement strategies, and the use of data to track development projects.

The MP expressed optimism that the knowledge and experiences gained in Ottawa will translate into tangible benefits for the people of Kumawu Constituency and for Ghana’s broader democratic development.

“I look forward to applying these lessons to enhance my service to the good people of Kumawu Constituency and to contribute meaningfully to national development. Our people deserve effective representation, and parliament must be at the forefront of delivering that,” he added.

He further emphasized the importance of partnerships between Ghana’s Parliament and international institutions in building the capacity of lawmakers to meet 21st-century governance challenges.

The programme is expected to conclude with a commitment by participants to implement action plans in their respective constituencies and parliaments.
