COCOA PRICE REDUCTION: 20% AND 10% SALARY SLASH NOT ENOUGH – COCOA FARMERS TELL COCOBOD

The Federation of Cocoa Associations Ghana is worried that the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is not doing enough to address the financial crisis in the cocoa sector. While COCOBOD staff have taken a 20% and 10% salary cut, the federation believes this is insufficient, especially when compared to the impact on cocoa farmers.

The association understands that the global market contributes to the financial crisis but emphasizes that farmers’ welfare should be a priority. They are calling for COCOBOD to reconsider its policies, including the free medical services enjoyed by staff, and extend similar benefits to farmers or scrap the policy altogether.

The federation also wants the government to involve farmers in any reforms and ensure timely payment for cocoa beans. According to them, despite government releases, farmers are yet to receive payments.
