Ashanti Regional Security Council Worries Over Recent Murder Of Women
The Ashanti regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah has expressed worries about the recent killing of women in the region.
Mr Mensah who doubles as the Chairman of the regional Security Council said investigations are underway to unravel the reasons behind the murder incidents.
Although he said some of the murders were related to relationship crises, others had nothing to do with relationships, and for that reason, they are trying to find reasons behind the killings.
Some women have recently been murdered in the region. The most recent one was an 18-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered at Anwiakwanta.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of International Peace Day organized by the Ashanti Regional National Peace Council, Mr Mensah said though some of the murders were related to relationship issues, there could be more to it.
He said they are investigating to get to the bottom of the murder incidents.
The Ashanti Regional Director for Inter-Party and Civil Society Organisations, Mr Mathew Njourkore, has questioned if the National Peace Council is indeed for peace over its silence on the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
The National Peace Council, he said, has been silent on the ongoing voter registration exercise despite concerns raised by the various political parties and some Ghanaians.
Speaking at the International Peace Day organized by the Ashanti regional National Peace Council today in Kumasi, he described the silence by the Peace Council as worrying.
Mr Njourkore noted that the confidence reposed in the Peace Council will be eroded if they do not sit up and speak the truth to the EC on the voter registration exercise.
The EC, he said, has given deaf ears to the concerns raised on the registration exercise which could probably lead to many people’s inability to register at the end of the exercise, citing the situation at the Ejura Sekyere Dumase as an instance.
Mr Njourkore, therefore, called on the National Peace Council to intervene in the registration concerns and speak the truth to the EC.
